Venuesmith vs Buffer
Buffer is a scheduler. You write each post and it publishes to up to 12 networks, with a free plan for three channels. Venuesmith is built for pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes: it plans weeks of Instagram and Facebook posts from a sentence, writes and designs each one, and waits for your approval. If you post to TikTok or Google Business Profile, or you want something free, Buffer fits better. If writing the posts is the part that never gets done, Venuesmith does.

When Buffer is the better choice
Pick Buffer if you post to more than Instagram and Facebook. It covers TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky and Google Business Profile too, and Venuesmith doesn't publish to any of those. It's also much cheaper for a single venue that writes its own posts: the free plan covers three channels, and Essentials is $5 a month per channel on yearly billing.
Buffer suits someone who's happy writing posts and wants one place to queue them up. Its AI Assistant can tidy a caption or suggest ideas, though you still put each post together yourself.
When Venuesmith is the better choice
Venuesmith is for the venue where the posts just don't get written. You describe what's coming up in a sentence ("quiz every Thursday, Sunday roasts, the Six Nations on the big screen") and it builds a plan of up to six weeks. Each post gets a caption, a photo and a layout from your templates, with your branding, and it's booked in for a good time of day. A separate reviewer checks every draft against your brand rules, and nothing goes out until you approve it.
It's priced by location, so a group with five venues pays $149 a month on Pro, with ten team members included.
Some venues will want both: Venuesmith for Instagram and Facebook, and Buffer's free plan for a TikTok or Google Business Profile account alongside it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Venuesmith a Buffer alternative?
For Instagram and Facebook, yes. Venuesmith covers the writing as well as the scheduling: it plans the posts, drafts them in your brand and publishes them once you've approved them. It doesn't publish to TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest or Google Business Profile, which Buffer does.
Is Buffer cheaper than Venuesmith?
On the subscription alone, usually. Buffer has a free plan for three channels, and Essentials is $5 a month per channel billed yearly, against $49 a month for one Venuesmith location. With Buffer you're still the one writing and designing the posts.
Does Buffer have post approvals?
Yes, on the Team plan, listed at $10 a month per channel on yearly billing. Free and Essentials don't include approval workflows. Venuesmith asks for approval on every post, on every plan.
Can Buffer write posts for me?
Its AI Assistant helps you brainstorm ideas and rewrite, shorten or expand text, and Buffer says it's free to use. Buffer's page describes it working inside the post you're writing and doesn't mention images, so the photo and layout are still up to you.
