Linking Dropbox
Venuesmith imports photos from Dropbox via shared links - no Dropbox app install or OAuth dance required. You create a share link once and paste it into the app.
Sharing a folder (recommended)
- Open dropbox.com and sign in
- Navigate to the folder containing your venue photos
- Hover the folder, click Share
- In the dialog, click Create link (or Copy link if one exists)
- Make sure access is set to Anyone with this link can view
- Copy the link - it looks like:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/abc123xyz/h?rlkey=def456&dl=0Importing into Venuesmith
- In the app, go to Locations → your location → Photos
- Pick the category the photos belong to (atmosphere, food, drink, venue, event, staff, other)
- Paste the link into the Import from Dropbox or Google Drive field
- Click Import
What happens server-side:
- Folder links are downloaded as a zip and unpacked
- Up to 50 images per import (JPEG, PNG, WebP; max 10MB each)
- Each image is auto-tagged by AI and added to the usage-tracked pool
- Subfolder images are included; non-image files are skipped silently
Sharing a single file
The same flow works for one photo: right-click the file in Dropbox, Share → Copy link, paste, Import.
Keeping a folder in sync
Imports are snapshots, not live syncs. When you add new photos to the Dropbox folder, paste the same link again - duplicates of identical files will appear as new entries, so prefer importing only the new shots (move them to a fresh subfolder and share that).
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| "link did not resolve to an image or folder zip" | The link is restricted - set it to Anyone with this link |
| "no importable images found" | The folder has no JPEG/PNG/WebP files under 10MB |
| Import succeeds but fewer photos than expected | Files over 10MB or beyond the 50-file cap were skipped |
| Very slow import | Large folders take time (download + AI tagging per image); split into batches |
